Hawthorn-Leslie 0-4-0
‘Leviathan’
Added January 2018

Manning Wardle ‘Titan’
Neilson 12” ‘Orion’
Black Hawthorn ‘Ajax’
Hawthorn-Leslie ‘Leviathan’

Yet another High Level Models Kit, and as with the Neilson and the Black Hawthorn, a delight to build - not easy, but excellent instructions, and everything fits together beautifully.

Plumpton brickworks already has three small engines in its roster, and this is the fourth, with another one to build. I really don’t need more than two engines for Plumpton Brickworks, but these kits are so enjoyable to build.

Here are a few photos taken during construction:

Two photos of the first stage of construction - the cab and firebox.

Left - the saddle tank complete apart from the fittings. The instructions say that the saddle tank wrapper should be annealed before bending to shape. It is only 6thou think, and can be rolled to shape very easily without annealing (which softens the metal and makes it more liable to accidental damage).

Right - the tank temporarily in position to check for fit. There are a few fittings to be added before soldering it into place.

And finally the finished engine as ‘Leviathan’.
